A PAN card is one of the most widely used formal documents. It is the document that must be submitted for income tax returns, to open a bank account, for buying cars or properties, etc. One can apply for a PAN card online, offline and can track the application status along with the ease to download it online.

An applicant can apply for a PAN card through NSDL, UTIITSL website and can also download the same easily. In this blog, we will understand the process to download a PAN card from NSDL along with the ways to apply for the same and the documents required to complete the process.

How to apply for a PAN card through NSDL?

To apply for a PAN card through NSDL, the applicant needs to follow the given instructions carefully-

  • Visit the official website of NSDL, click on ‘Application Type’
  • Choose the type of application you want to apply for (Form 49A- for Indian citizens), Form 49AA- for Foreign citizens)
  • Next, choose the category from the given options available
  • Fill in your details carefully
  • Choose the title (out of Shri, Smt or Kumari) you want to be reflected on your PAN card
  • Write your Last name/Surname, First name and Middle name ( if there is any)
  • Select your DOB/Incorporation/Formation date in the following format – DD/MM/YY
  • Write your registered email address in use
  • Enter your current mobile number
  • Tick mark on the guidelines
  • Enter the CAPTCHA code and submit your application
  • Next, you will be redirected to the payment page where you need to make a payment of Rs. 93 for your PAN card, a fee of Rs. 864 needs to be paid for Form 49AA
  • You can choose any payment method like a credit card, debit card, net banking, cheque or DD
  • After the successful submission of your PAN card application, you will receive an acknowledgement number page. Take a printout of it and keep it safe with yourself for further use
  • Paste your passport size photograph in the acknowledgement paper, sign it with a black pen and send the acknowledgement receipt to the Income Tax Department. Along with the receipt, send your residential proof, identity proof or other supporting documents as requested, within 15 days from the date of the online application
  • After the successful validation of your documents, you will receive your PAN card number to your registered mobile number and email id

How to apply for a PAN card offline?

Apply for a PAN card offline by following the given steps-

  • Log in to the official website of NSDL
  • Click on ‘Apply Online’, download Form 49A, if you are an Indian Citizen, and/or Form 49AA, if you are a foreign citizen
  • Fill the form carefully and upload all the supporting documents along with a passport size photograph and pay the PAN card fee
  • Take a printout of the 15-digit acknowledgement number and sign it
  • Attach the passport size photograph along with POI (Proof of Identity)/POA (Point of Address)
  • Next, send all the above documents to the NSDL office, along with the Demand Draft (in case you are paying through it)

How to do NSDL PAN Card Download?

A PAN card can be downloaded through the NSDL portal in two ways, i.e- through acknowledgement number and PAN card

1- Download e-PAN Card through Acknowledgement Number

  • Enter the acknowledgement number
  • Enter ‘Date of birth’
  • Write the captcha code and click on ‘Submit’
  • An OTP will be sent to the registered email address or mobile number
  • Enter the OTP and download the e-PAN Card

2. Download e-PAN Card through PAN Number

  • Enter the PAN and Aadhaar number
  • Add applicant’s date of birth
  • Add GSTN number (if provided)
  • Tick the guidelines and enter the captcha code
  • Click on ‘Submit’ and enter the OTP
  • Download e-PAN Card
