We believe that every step towards sustainability counts. This World Environment Day 2025, we reaffirm our commitment to building a cleaner, greener planet. Our efforts are grounded in the belief that technology and collective action can create meaningful environmental change.
Championing Clean Air with UNEP
We recently announced the second phase of the Air Quality Action Forum (AQAF) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Supported by the Paytm Foundation, this initiative is aligned with India’s clean air goals.
Launched as a national-level action forum, AQAF brings together regulators, policymakers, corporates, and NGOs to identify actionable solutions to India’s air quality challenges. It promotes structured implementation of clean air projects and fosters collaboration across sectors.
Our Founder & CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, UNEP’s Patron for Clean Air since 2017, continues to advocate for climate action through UNEP’s global #BreatheLife campaign. This initiative champions clean air, raises awareness, and drives policy-level change for healthier urban living.
Empowering Green Finance and Digital Innovation
He also contributes to the Advisory Board of the Green Digital Finance Alliance. This Alliance addresses the potential for digital finance and fintech-powered business innovations to reshape the financial system, aligning it with the needs of sustainable development. Our initiatives, such as reducing paper usage by encouraging digital transactions and promoting e-receipts, are part of our commitment to conserving water and reducing air pollution.
Our payment device – Paytm Soundbox is a key part of this strategy. The device enables eco-friendly digital transactions, replacing printed receipts and reducing the carbon footprint of small and large businesses.
Greener Commutes for Paytmers
Environmental impact also starts within our own workplace. We actively promote carpooling and shuttle services for employees. This not only reduces individual carbon emissions but also eases urban traffic congestion and fosters stronger workplace camaraderie.
By integrating green commuting habits, we encourage Paytmers to make mindful transportation choices that directly reduce our carbon footprint.
Vriksharopan: Plant a Paytm Forest
Another meaningful initiative is ‘Vriksharopan – Plant a Paytm Forest’, introduced through our Box of Joy campaign. In 2023, we partnered with the Sankalptaru Foundation to enable Paytmers to plant trees at our dedicated forest site near the NCR region.
What makes this program unique is the geotagging of trees, allowing Paytmers to track their trees’ growth and even visit them. This fosters a deep, personal connection to environmental stewardship.
These trees not only contribute to afforestation but also provide sustainable livelihoods for rural communities involved in their care. By addressing both ecological needs and socio-economic challenges, we strive for a more inclusive and balanced impact.
From launching clean air forums to supporting digital green finance, Paytm’s sustainability efforts reflect our long-term vision for environmental change. Whether it’s driving digital adoption or supporting afforestation through tree-planting campaigns, we are proud of the positive steps we continue to take.
We recognize that the road to sustainability is long, but through collaborative action, innovation, and a values-driven approach, we can make a lasting impact on the environment.
