We strongly believe that health and well-being are the cornerstones of a productive and fulfilling work life. As part of our continued commitment towards employee wellness, we recently organised an interactive health awareness session focused on understanding headaches and migraines, led by Dr Neha Pandita, Senior Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Lead in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders at Fortis Hospital, Noida.
The session aimed to help Paytmers better understand the causes, care, and prevention of headaches and migraines, while emphasising the importance of lifestyle management alongside medical treatment.
Understanding Headaches and Migraines
Dr Pandita explained that severe headaches can last from 4 to 72 hours and may occur two to three times or more in a month. Migraines usually affect one side of the head, but can sometimes involve the entire head, and are often accompanied by nausea or vomiting.
She shared that headaches are broadly classified into primary headaches, such as migraines, tension-type, and cluster headaches, and secondary headaches, which are caused by underlying conditions like infections or brain-related issues.
Common headache triggers include hormonal changes, poor sleep, weather, sunlight exposure, improper diet, strong smells, alcohol, as well as smoking.
Lifestyle Management Is Key
Dr Pandita stressed that medication alone is not sufficient, and lifestyle management plays a crucial role in prevention. Recognising and avoiding triggers such as alcohol, smoking, junk food, and prioritising good sleep hygiene can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of headaches.
To minimise screen-related strain, she recommended limiting recreational screen time at home to two hours. For those who spend 7 to 8 hours a day working on screens, she advised taking 5 to 10-minute breaks every hour and using blue light filtering glasses to reduce eye strain.
For SOS relief, Dr Pandita noted that occasional use of common painkillers is generally safe. However, she cautioned that consuming more than five painkillers a month can lead to medication overuse headaches. Further, individuals with frequent headaches should consult a doctor for preventive treatment.
Committed to Wellness
These insights reinforce our ongoing efforts to promote awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle. We continue to organise regular health awareness sessions, mindfulness and yoga programs, and expert-led interactions for Paytmers.
We have also partnered with leading hospital chains including Fortis, Max, Apollo, Medanta, and Motherhood across India to offer comprehensive health check-ups at our office campuses, along with regional discounts and exclusive healthcare benefits.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where Paytmers sought guidance on advanced treatments, headaches in the elderly, and case-specific concerns.
Our commitment to wellness goes beyond physical health. We actively promote work-life balance, mental well-being, and regular employee engagement to understand comfort, workload, and overall satisfaction.
By equipping Paytmers with the right knowledge and support, we continue to build a healthier, more informed workplace, one that puts people first, always.
