New FASTag Regulations Starting August 1
Synopsis:
  • FASTag for Parking: NDMC is introducing FASTag technology at parking facilities for faster and easier payments.
  • Expansion: The number of parking sites will grow from 150 to 175, helping more cars, two-wheelers, and buses park in busy areas.
  • Cashless Incentives: Discounts will be offered for parking payments made digitally, encouraging more users to go cashless.
  • Sustainability: The plan includes multi-level parking and stack parking to reduce traffic and lower pollution.
  • Mobile App: A new app will help users find available parking spots in real-time.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is taking steps to make parking easier and more efficient by introducing FASTag technology at all parking sites. This will allow people to pay for parking quickly and without the need for cash, speeding up the process and reducing delays.

Currently, NDMC has 150 parking facilities, but they are expanding to 175 sites. These new sites will help accommodate 11,000 cars, 5,000 two-wheelers, and 200 buses, with some key areas like Tolstoy Marg, Sarojini Nagar, Khan Market, and Connaught Place getting new and improved parking options.

To encourage people to switch to digital payments, NDMC will offer discounts for cashless transactions. The goal is to make the parking experience smoother by eliminating cash payments and reducing waiting times.

A key feature of this initiative is the launch of a new mobile app. The app will give real-time updates on parking availability, making it easier for drivers to find available spaces. This will be especially helpful in busy areas where parking is in high demand.

In addition to making parking more convenient, NDMC is focusing on making the city more sustainable. New multi-level parking will be built in areas like Gole Market, and stack parking will be set up at busy spots like Khan Market to help reduce traffic and pollution.

NDMC is also looking to improve the city’s infrastructure. The expanded parking system will provide space for over 9,000 cars, 4,300 two-wheelers, and 120 buses, making it easier for everyone to park in New Delhi.

Chahal, Vice Chairman of NDMC, said this initiative will not only make parking more convenient but will also help make New Delhi a smarter and more sustainable city.

NHAI to Implement GPS-Based Toll Collection System, Replacing Existing Toll Plazas

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to implement GPS-based toll collection systems by March 2024, aiming to replace existing toll plazas. Pilot testing of the technology will start on select highways. The GPS-toll collection system tracks a vehicle's movements and calculates toll charges based on the distance covered, offering a more equitable approach compared to fixed tolls. It also eliminates the need for cash or change, as the toll amount is automatically deducted from a linked account using a secure electronic payment system. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the accuracy of toll collection.

Incomplete KYC FASTags to Be Deactivated After January 31, 2024

Starting from January 31, 2024, FASTags with incomplete KYC will be deactivated by banks, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). NHAI has introduced the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative to improve the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate smoother movement at toll plazas. This initiative discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle. NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the KYC process as per RBI guidelines by updating their latest FASTag. Users must ensure that their latest FASTag has completed KYC to avoid any inconvenience. Previous FASTags should be discarded, and only the latest one will remain active after January 31, 2024.
