To loosen up the long queues at toll plazas across the country, the government of India has made it necessary for all four-wheeled vehicles to have FASTag installed on their windshield. The FASTag is a digital toll payment system that works on the RFID (Radio Frequency) technology to make payments at toll booths with the use of prepaid wallets.
Since the FASTag is issued on the basis of the vehicle registration number and the vehicle owner, one may need to close/transfer the linked FASTag only in case the owner decides to sell his/her vehicle. It is also important to close/transfer the FASTag in such a case because if you don’t do so, the new owner of your vehicle will continue to use your FASTag and the money will be deducted from your prepaid wallet. Additionally, the new vehicle owner will also not be able to get a new FASTag for himself because there would already be one FASTag account linked to your vehicle.

How to Transfer FASTag?
It is quite simple to transfer ownership of your FASTag on Paytm. You simply need to follow these steps-
- Open the Paytm mobile application on your smartphone
- Login to your Paytm account using the mobile number that is registered with your FASTag account
- In the ‘Search Bar’, type ‘FASTag’ and click on ‘Manage FASTag’ under the ‘Services’ section
- You will be redirected to a screen displaying all your active FASTag accounts linked to your Paytm number
- Select the vehicle number related to your FASTag that you want to transfer
- Click on ‘View All’ and tap on the ‘Link with other wallet’ option
- Enter the mobile number of the new owner to whom you want to transfer the FASTag and click on ‘Proceed’
- Once you proceed, an SMS will be sent to the new owner with a link to accept the transfer request of your FASTag
- Upon acceptance, your FASTag will be transferred to the new owner and will be de-linked from your account.
However, if you still wish to close your FASTag, explained below are the steps on how you can close your FASTag.
How to Close FASTag?
Different FASTag issuers follow different procedures to close the FASTag accounts of their users. However, the ways that you can opt to close your FASTag remain the same for all FASTag issuers. You can opt for either of the following ways to deactivate/close your FASTag
- Call customer care service– If you have the NHAI FASTag, you can call the NHAI Customer Service at 1033 and ask the concerned official to initiate your request for the closure of your FASTag
- Use your FASTag-linked mobile payment application– You can log in to the mobile application of your FASTag issuer bank or your Paytm prepaid wallet, and follow the steps to close your FASTag account
- Log in to the online FASTag portal of your FASTag issuer bank– You can also log in to the online portal of your FASTag issuer’s bank and take the required steps to close your FASTag account
How to Close a FASTag on Paytm?
It is quite simple to close your FASTag account on Paytm. You simply need to follow these steps-
- Login to the Paytm app using the mobile number registered with your FASTag account
- In the ‘Search Bar’, type ‘FASTag’ and click on ‘Manage FASTag’ under the ‘Services’ section
- You will be redirected to a screen displaying all the active FASTag accounts linked to your Paytm number
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap on the ‘Help & Support’ option
- You will be redirected to the FASTag Help & Support screen
- Tap on ‘Need help with non-order related queries?’
- Select the option ‘Queries related to updating FASTag profile’
- Select the option ‘I want to close my FASTag’ and follow the steps mentioned there
You can also reach out to Paytm’s customer care service at their Toll-free number 1800-120-4210 to close your FASTag account on Paytm. All you need to do is provide your mobile number, which is linked to the tag, and your Vehicle Registration Number to the customer care executive.
