FASTag Tracking and its Validity

To reduce traffic congestion and delays on national highways, the government introduced FASTag, a cashless system where toll taxes are collected electronically. From 16th February 2021, all four-wheelers must have a FASTag installed. FASTag is managed by a major number of banks under the supervision of NPCI and NHAI.

It uses RFID technology to eliminate manual toll collection. The aim is to make toll collection more efficient and save time for people. Now, let’s learn how to track and check the validity of your FASTag.

How to Track FASTag Transactions?

To keep track of your FASTag transactions, you can easily download the FASTag statement from your fastag issuing bank or a popular UPI app like Paytm. This statement provides a comprehensive list of all your toll transactions, showing the amount deducted from your FASTag account at each toll booth along with the time of deduction. It’s a convenient way to stay organized and have a clear understanding of where your money is being spent.

You can follow these steps to see your FASTag statement on Paytm:

  • Step 1: Open the Paytm App and search for ‘Manage FASTag’.
  • Step 2: On the ‘Manage FASTag’ screen, you will find a list of your recent FASTag payments.
  • Step 3: If you want to view transactions for a longer period, you can click on the ‘Request Statement’ option.
  • Step 4: The statement will provide you with a detailed list of all your transactions, including the toll booth, the amount deducted, and the time of deduction.

FASTag has a validity of 5 years from the date of issuance. However, it is always recommended to check with the specific issuer for the exact validity period and any updates regarding FASTag.

Is FASTag Compulsory?

Yes, FASTag is compulsory for all four-wheeled vehicles in India. As of 16th February 2021, the Indian government has made it mandatory for vehicles to have a FASTag sticker on their windshield when crossing toll plazas on national highways. This initiative aims to promote digital fee payment, reduce waiting time for travellers, minimize fuel consumption, and provide a seamless passage on national highways.

Incomplete KYC FASTags to Be Deactivated After January 31, 2024

Starting from January 31, 2024, FASTags with incomplete KYC will be deactivated by banks, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). NHAI has introduced the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative to improve the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate smoother movement at toll plazas. This initiative discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle. NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the KYC process as per RBI guidelines by updating their latest FASTag. Users must ensure that their latest FASTag has completed KYC to avoid any inconvenience.
