Documents Required for FASTag Application

The FASTag is a device that is attached to the windscreen of a four-wheeled vehicle in order to digitalize the toll tax payments at all the toll plazas across the country. The FASTag works on the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Technology) technology, which enables the payment of toll tax from a prepaid wallet linked to the vehicle’s owner.

The idea behind facilitating and making the use of FASTag mandatory is to eliminate long queues and jams at the toll booths, thereby ensuring a smooth and fast driving experience. The FASTag has a validity of 5 years, which keeps you away from the burden of re-registering or re-applying for it again and again.

On top of this, if you link your FASTag to a prepaid wallet like Paytm, you will not have to recharge your FASTag separately. If you use Paytm wallet for your FASTag transactions, all you need is to have a balance in your Paytm wallet and link it with your FASTag. The toll tax amount will automatically be deducted from your wallet and you will be notified of your FASTag transaction every time you cross a toll booth.

Incomplete KYC FASTags to Be Deactivated After January 31, 2024

Starting from January 31, 2024, FASTags with incomplete KYC will be deactivated by banks, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). NHAI has introduced the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative to improve the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate smoother movement at toll plazas. This initiative discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to one vehicle. NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the KYC process as per RBI guidelines by updating their latest FASTag. Users must ensure that their latest FASTag has completed KYC to avoid any inconvenience.
