If you've accidentally sent money to the wrong mobile number on Paytm, here's what you should do:

  • Check Transaction Details Immediately: Go to your 'Balance & History' or 'My Orders' section in the Paytm app to confirm the transaction and the incorrect mobile number.

  • Contact the Recipient (If Possible): If you know the person or can identify them (e.g., a digit off your intended contact), try to reach out and politely ask them to send the money back.

  • Lodge a Complaint with Paytm Customer Support:

    • Open the Paytm app and go to the 'Help & Support' or '24x7 Help' section.

    • Select the relevant transaction.

    • Choose the option for "Wrongly sent money" or a similar issue.

    • Follow the prompts to raise a dispute. You will likely need to provide details like the transaction ID, date, amount, and the correct/incorrect mobile numbers.

  • Paytm's Role: Paytm will investigate the issue. If the recipient's number is not registered on Paytm, the transaction might automatically fail and reverse. If the number is valid and the money has been credited, Paytm may try to contact the recipient on your behalf to facilitate a refund. However, they cannot force the recipient to return the money as per banking regulations, as it's an initiated transfer.

  • Bank Involvement (Last Resort): If Paytm cannot resolve the issue and the amount is significant, you might also consider contacting your bank, though their ability to reverse a UPI/wallet transfer initiated by you is often limited once it's credited to the recipient.
