#2022 in Learning: Creating a Culture of Innovation by Upskilling and Enabling our Paytmers

Here’s an inside look at how in 2022 we introduced new programmes to further boost our culture of innovation and learning.

At Paytm, we believe in bringing the best expertise of solving the biggest and complex problems through our products and services. We understand that the future of work means making work meaningful for every Paytmer. This also means encouraging them on the path to their growth, career and self development.

Campus To Corporate Programme: We introduced our Campus to Corporate (C2C) programme this year to train future leaders, who will be part of our innovation-driven culture. With our C2C programme, new joinees are getting the opportunity to learn and work as full-time product, growth and business leaders. Through the programme, we are providing additional support and mentorship to our young talent so that they can gear up to take on the role earlier in their career. The programme is giving a common platform to these beginners, who are mentored through leadership coaching to become effective communicators, managers, and leaders.

APM Programme: Twenty four participants (B-School graduates) have been chosen from a pool of over 100 candidates from technology backgrounds from across the country. The three month tenure (for each project) is carefully planned to help integrate the APM in Paytm’s high speed environment with access to learning resources and support. Each APM was paired with a buddy (a seasoned Paytmer who will play a guiding and mentoring role). This was followed up by an orientation by the senior product leadership, a BU connect, and introductions with the program manager assigned to the project and at PM Round Tables. A round of team introductions were followed up by functional alignment, and then projects were assigned.

Tech Upskilling: Our engineering teams need constant skills that keep pace with automation. To facilitate this, we have several learning partnerships with platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Pluralsight and Udemy where we have helped over 2,000 our engineers (every year) upskill themselves on architecturing and advance architecturing, running container-enabled service, machine learning, SQL, SQL, Advance R and Python among others.

Business Upskilling: Our Field Service Employees (FSEs) in ECs and QRCs are trained through a customized, virtual training programme. The programme includes understanding time management, customer service, sales, engaging in a conversation, relationship building behaviour, and more.

Building Inter Team Collaborations: We facilitate cross functional learning sessions with internal experts on technologies. We have a programme called Tech Talks, where engineers share their experiences of building scalable technology to the success stories around challenging engineering problems. Our Product and Growth teams are constantly learning from each other, through monthly sessions from internal experts under our Riseup sessions.

Programmes for Senior Leaders: Learning programmes have been specially designed for the development of our future leaders. It includes the Senior Leadership Programme (AVP and above), Advanced Leadership Development Programme (GM level) and Young Leadership Development Programme for junior leaders.

Effective People Manager Programmes: With a focus on developing every Paytmer’s growth, we understand that leaders need to build high performing teams. Our Human Resource Information System training includes round-the-year manager assimilation programmes along with workshops on Effective People Manager and the Art of Giving Feedback to support Performance Management Systems during appraisal cycles. Our extensive onboarding training modules also ensure that every new employee is trained comprehensively and is armed with necessary information required for success in their roles.

The Learning Hour: Short, express learning sessions are also delivered as part of the Learning Hour programme for self development skills such as time management, presentation skills, emotional intelligence and conflict management among others.

We are working on several new upskilling programmes which will be introduced in the coming months. Stay tuned for more details.
