How to Apply for Passport Online in India?
Step 1: Start by registering on the Passport Seva Online Portal by clicking on the “New User Registration” button on the Home Page.
Step 2: You will be redirected to a page where you have to create an account on Passport Seva portal. Fill the mandatory details and click on register.
Step 3: Click “Apply for Background Verification for GEP” link.
Step 4: Fill in the required details in the application form and submit.
Step 5: Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.
- Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all PSK/POPSK/PO. Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:
- Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
- Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) and Other Banks)
- UPI Payment
Step 6: Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Note: Carrying printout of Application Receipt is no longer required. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment during your visit to Passport Office.
Important Information:
- Appointment Requirement: Note that only individuals with emergency/medical cases and those falling under preapproved categories may visit the Passport Seva Kendra without a prior appointment. The provision of services in such cases will be subject to the discretion of the Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer.
- Photograph for Minors: If you are applying for a passport for a minor who is below 4 years of age, make sure to bring a recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with a white background.
- Application Resubmission: If the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the submission of the online application form, it will be necessary to resubmit the application.
