What is E-Challan?
An e-challan is a digital fine document that is issued to individuals who have violated traffic rules. The government introduced e-challan to improve transparency in the system and decrease traffic violations. In Mumbai, e-challan payments must be made within 60 days from the date the challan is issued.
How to Check E-Challan Status in Mumbai?
An individual can check the e-challan status online by following these simple steps:
Step 1– Visit the official website for e-challan issuance provided by the transport department of Mumbai
Step 2– Go to ‘Check Challan Status’
Step 3– Enter the required details such as registration number, challan number and captcha code
Step 4– Click on ‘Get Details’. The challan-related information will be reflected on the screen
How to Pay E-Challan Using Mumbai Traffic Police Challan Payment System?
Under the new system of e-challan Mumbai, the violators are notified through SMS on their mobile number that is registered upon encountering any traffic violation. By following these simple steps an individual can make Mumbai traffic fine payment online through the state’s official website-
Step 1– Click on the official website link given on the SMS
Step 2– After clicking on the portal, there are two ways in which you can log in-
- Enter the registered vehicle number and the last four digits of engine number
or
- Enter the challan number mentioned on the SMS and login directly
Step 3– Enter all the required details and click on the ‘Pay’ button.
Step 4– You will be directed to the net-banking page
Step 5– The payee can make the payment using a debit card, credit card, net banking, etc.
*Note the reference number generated before proceeding to e-challan online payment.

On Paytm Mobile App
- Open the Paytm Mobile Application on your phone
- Click on ‘Bill Payments’ and click on ‘View All’
- Scroll Down to find ‘Challan’ and click on it
- Select the ‘Traffic Authority’
- Enter the required details such as Challan ID/Number, vehicle number, etc.
- Click on ‘Proceed’ to check the fine amount
- Choose the preferred mode of payment from credit card, debit card, UPI and net banking
- Once you complete the payment you will receive a notification regarding the same
On Paytm Website
- Sign up to the Paytm website
- Navigate to ‘Recharge & Pay Bills’ and click on ‘Challan’
- Choose the ‘Traffic Authority’
