What is Aadhaar Seeding?
Aadhaar seeding means linking your Aadhaar number with your bank account. This is important to receive Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) like gas subsidies from the government. Once linked, your Aadhaar gets registered in a special system called the NPCI mapper.
How to Link Aadhaar with Your Bank Account
Follow these steps to complete the Aadhaar seeding process:
1. Visit Your Bank Branch
Go to the bank where you have an account and ask for the Aadhaar seeding consent form.
2. Fill and Submit the Form
Fill the form with your details. Sign it as per the signature on your bank records.
3. Submit ID Proof if Required
The bank staff may ask for identity proof. After verifying your details, they will give you an acknowledgment receipt.
4. Bank Links Your Aadhaar
Your bank will:
- Link your Aadhaar to your account
- Update it in the NPCI mapper

Role of the Customer
As a customer, you should:
- Submit the consent form either in paper or electronic format (as allowed by your bank).
- If changing your Aadhaar link from one bank to another, mention the old bank’s name.
- After Aadhaar is linked, approach your gas agency (OMC) for a pending subsidy.
- If subsidy isn’t received, call the OMC’s toll-free number: 1800 2333 555.
Role of the Bank
Banks must:
- Check and verify your consent form and signature.
- Link Aadhaar in CBS (Core Banking System) and update the NPCI mapper.
- Make sure the mapper file is uploaded properly.
- Fix any issues if Aadhaar isn’t updated correctly.
- Handle customer complaints seriously.
Note: Linking Aadhaar in CBS alone is not enough. Banks must upload the file to NPCI for the mapper to show the updated Aadhaar.
What NPCI Does
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI provides the NPCI mapper tool. This tool helps banks:
- Add or remove Aadhaar numbers based on customer requests.
- Process and send back response files to the banks.
- NPCI doesn’t update records themselves; only banks can do that.
If a customer contacts NPCI, the issue is forwarded to the respective bank.
What if Your Aadhaar Isn’t Linked?
If you’ve submitted everything and Aadhaar still doesn’t reflect in the NPCI mapper:
- The issue lies with the bank, not NPCI.
- Contact your bank’s customer care or service cell.
- You may escalate the issue as per the bank’s complaint process.
- You can also email [email protected] with your Aadhaar consent acknowledgement copy for help.
