UPI payments are processed instantly, so a completed transaction cannot be cancelled or reversed from the sender's side. However, if you've accidentally transferred money to the wrong UPI ID, you should report the issue immediately to improve the chances of recovering your funds.
How to Report a Wrong UPI Transaction on Paytm?
- Open the Paytm app and tap the Profile icon.
- Go to Help & Support (24x7 Help).
- Describe your issue in the chat assistant. Based on your conversation, Paytm will display the relevant UPI transactions.
- Select the transaction you want to report. If you don't see it immediately, tap View More to access older transactions.
- Choose the issue that best matches your problem and submit the complaint. Save the complaint reference number for future follow-up.
Can a Wrong UPI Transaction Be Reversed?
A completed UPI payment cannot be reversed instantly. However, you should take the following steps as soon as possible:
- Raise a complaint through the Paytm app.
- Contact your bank and report the incorrect transfer.
- If possible, reach out to the recipient and request a refund.
- If the payment was made due to fraud or a scam, immediately call the 1930 Cyber Fraud Helpline and report the incident to your bank.
Details You'll Need While Raising a Complaint
- UTR or Transaction ID
- Date and time of the transaction
- Amount transferred
- Recipient's UPI ID or mobile number
- Screenshots of the transaction, if available
What If the Payment Failed but Money Was Debited?
If your payment failed but the amount was deducted, the transaction is generally reversed automatically within the RBI-prescribed timeline. If the refund is delayed, raise a complaint through the Paytm app and contact your bank for assistance.
Tip: Report a wrong UPI transfer as soon as possible. While there is no guarantee of recovery, acting quickly significantly improves the chances of resolving the issue.
