Every successful UPI transaction is assigned a unique reference number that helps identify and track the payment. This reference number is useful when checking a transaction's status, contacting your bank, or raising a complaint through Paytm.

Depending on your bank or payment system, this reference may be labelled as:

  • UPI Reference Number
  • UTR (Unique Transaction Reference)
  • RRN (Retrieval Reference Number)

Although these terms have slightly different technical meanings, they all refer to the transaction reference used to identify and trace your UPI payment.

How to Find Your UPI Reference Number on Paytm

  1. Open the Paytm app.
  2. Go to Balance & History or Transaction History.
  3. Select the UPI transaction you want to check.
  4. Open the Transaction Details page.
  5. View the UPI Reference Number, UTR, or RRN, depending on how the transaction details are displayed.

When Will You Need the UPI Reference Number?

  • Track the status of a UPI payment.
  • Report a failed or pending transaction.
  • Raise a complaint through the Paytm app or your bank.
  • Share transaction details with customer support for faster resolution.

What's the Difference Between a UPI Reference Number, UTR, and RRN?

  • UPI Reference Number: The unique identifier assigned to a UPI transaction.
  • UTR (Unique Transaction Reference): A unique reference number used by banks and payment systems to track financial transactions.
  • RRN (Retrieval Reference Number): A reference number used to retrieve and trace transaction details across payment networks.

Tip: Always keep your UPI Reference Number (UTR/RRN) handy when contacting Paytm or your bank, as it helps them locate your transaction quickly.
