What is the transaction limit for UPI?

The standard UPI transaction limit set by NPCI is INR 1 lakh per day for most peer-to-peer transfers. However, higher limits apply to specific categories:
  • Educational institutions and healthcare: Up to INR 5 lakh.
  • Capital markets, insurance, and tax payments: Up to INR 5 lakh per transaction, with a daily cumulative limit of INR 10 lakh.
  • Credit card bill payments and jewellery: Up to INR 5 lakh per transaction.
  • New users: Restricted to INR 5,000 for the first 24 hours after setting a UPI PIN.
Individual banks may also set their own lower limits within these guidelines.
