How to cross the cheque

To cross a cheque, draw two parallel transverse lines across the face of the cheque, typically on the top-left corner. This instruction tells the bank that the funds must be deposited into a bank account and cannot be cashed over the counter. You can add specific instructions between the lines:
  • Write A/C Payee or Account Payee Only to ensure the money is credited only to the named recipient's account.
  • Include a specific bank’s name for a special crossing, meaning it can only be processed through that bank.
  • Write Not Negotiable to restrict the transfer of the title.
