Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil two major telecom initiatives tomorrow:
- Rollout of nearly 98,000 mobile 4G towers across India
- Launch of BSNL’s Swadeshi 4G (5G-ready) network – a fully indigenous, software-driven, and cloud-based system designed for seamless upgradation to 5G.
Minister Scindia highlighted that this initiative marks a historic step towards a self-reliant and digitally empowered India, reinforcing the vision of Viksit Bharat and Aatmarnirbhar Bharat.
“BSNL’s swadeshi 4G, fully upgradable to 5G, on C-DOT core, Tejas RAN, and TCS integration marks a historic step. No part of India will be left untouched,” said Scindia.
Currently, these towers are already serving 22 million customers nationwide.
A New Era for Indian Telecom
The indigenous 4G technology stack has been developed entirely within India:
Component | Developed By |
---|---|
Radio Access Network (RAN) | Tejas Networks |
Core Network | C-DOT |
System Integration | TCS |
Deployment | BSNL |
This achievement places India among the world’s leading telecom equipment manufacturers and boosts the country’s role as a global exporter of telecom technology.
Benefits for Citizens
Minister Scindia explained how this initiative impacts everyday lives:
- Students in Bihar – Seamless access to world-class online education
- Farmers in Punjab – Real-time mandi price updates
- Soldiers stationed in Kashmir – Stronger connectivity with families
- Entrepreneurs in the Northeast – Access to international expertise and funding
“This 4G infrastructure is thoughtfully designed to uplift every Indian, regardless of their geography or background,” Scindia said.
100% 4G Saturation Network
Alongside this launch, the government is also unveiling India’s 100% 4G saturation network through the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN):
- 29,000 villages have been connected under the 4G saturation project and other DBN initiatives
- This announcement comes ahead of BSNL’s 25th anniversary, celebrating its silver jubilee of service to the nation
India’s Telecom Growth Story
Secretary Telecom, Dr. Neeraj Mittal, presented India’s telecom journey – from early doubts to the successful creation of an indigenous 4G stack. He credited:
- Youth talent
- Industry collaboration
- Real-time monitoring
These efforts have made India self-reliant and capable of exporting telecom technology worldwide, supporting the vision of Digital Bharat and Vishwaguru.
A Defining Global Moment
What was once thought impossible four years ago is now a reality. India is:
- Expanding high-quality telecom services to 1.2 billion people
- Establishing itself as a global hub for telecom manufacturing
This accomplishment reinforces India’s leadership in digital empowerment, global growth, and equity, embodying the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “the world is one family.”
