India is showcasing its successful governance reforms to the world, emphasizing how technology has made public services faster, more transparent, and more accessible to its citizens.
On October 11, Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, held an interactive session with senior officials from 19 countries who are in India for the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme. During the meeting at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), he shared the key innovations that are transforming administration in the country.
Dr. Singh explained that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has embraced a model of “innovation as a way of life.” He noted that nearly 90% of the Indian government’s processes are now online, which proved crucial for maintaining continuity of services, especially during the pandemic.
To illustrate this transformation, the Minister pointed to some of India’s globally acclaimed practices. He highlighted the Aadhaar digital identity system, which has been fundamental in ensuring that benefits and services reach the right people directly. He also mentioned the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for infrastructure as another example of using technology for better planning and execution.
Emphasizing that the session was a two-way learning opportunity, Dr. Singh urged the international delegates to share the best administrative practices from their own countries. “I have come to learn from you all,” he said, positioning the interaction as a platform for mutual growth and collaboration.
Beyond technology, the Minister also demonstrated India’s commitment to community-driven initiatives. He led the delegates in a ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ (Cleanliness is Service) campaign and a tree plantation drive, symbolizing that modern governance also includes environmental consciousness and citizen participation.
Dr. Singh concluded by reaffirming India’s commitment to sharing its knowledge with the global community, fostering a spirit of shared growth and collective innovation.
