GSTIN is the **Full form** for Goods and Services Tax Identification Number. It is a unique 15-digit alphanumeric code assigned to every taxpayer registered under the Goods and Services Tax regime in India.

Structure and Format

This 15-digit code comprises: the first two digits represent the state code, followed by the 10-digit Permanent Account Number (PAN) of the business. The 13th digit denotes the number of registrations an entity has within a state, the 14th is ‘Z’ by default, and the last digit is a checksum character.

Importance and Usage

GSTIN is vital for businesses to comply with GST regulations, file tax returns, raise invoices, and claim input tax credit. Without it, a business cannot operate legally under GST.
