UPI

Which government introduced UPI?

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) was introduced by the Government of India through the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under the guidance of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It was officially launched in April 2016 by Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, the then Governor of the RBI. This initiative was part of a broader effort to transform India into a digital economy and promote cashless transactions. UPI has since become the leading real-time payment system in the country, enabling instant fund transfers across different banks.
