UPI

Where was UPI invented?

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) was invented in India. It was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under the guidance of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The pilot launch took place in Mumbai on April 11, 2016, by Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, the then Governor of the RBI. This indigenous digital payment system was created to provide a safe, secure, and interoperable platform for instant real-time fund transfers between bank accounts using mobile devices.
