What is a provisional license?

A provisional license, often called a learner's license in India, allows new drivers to practice under supervision before getting a permanent license. It comes with restrictions such as displaying an "L" plate and not driving alone. The validity is 6 months, during which the learner must apply for and pass the permanent license test.
