The cheque number is a six-digit number located at the bottom-left corner of a cheque leaf. It is the first set of numbers in the sequence printed at the bottom, placed between two quotes or special characters. On a standard Indian bank cheque, you will find several codes in the bottom strip:
- The first six digits represent the unique Cheque Number
- The next nine digits are the MICR code, used for electronic clearing
- The following numbers indicate the account ID and transaction code
This cheque number is essential for tracking payments and filling out bank deposit slips.
