How to calculate cheque validity

To calculate a cheque’s validity in India, locate the date written on the top right corner and count exactly three months forward. According to RBI guidelines, cheques are valid for a period of three months from the date of issue.
  • Identify the Date: Note the date in DD/MM/YYYY format on the cheque leaf.
  • Count Three Months: For example, a cheque dated 15th January is valid until 14th April.
  • Present Early: The cheque must be presented to the bank before this period ends to avoid it being rejected as a stale cheque.
