UPI Lite users are set to enjoy two important upgrades starting November 1, 2024, aimed at making small digital payments even simpler. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced an auto top-up feature for UPI Lite, which will automatically reload your wallet whenever your balance falls below a certain amount.
In addition, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased the UPI lite maximum transaction limit from ₹500 to ₹1,000 per transaction. The overall wallet balance limit will also rise from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000, providing users with greater flexibility and convenience.
How Auto Top-Up Will Work
Users can set a minimum balance in their UPI Lite wallet with the new auto top-up feature. For example, if a user sets a minimum balance of ₹100, the wallet will automatically reload from their bank account whenever the balance drops below that amount. Users can choose the reload amount, but it cannot exceed the current limit of ₹2,000, and up to five top-ups are allowed per day.
