What is UPI Interoperable Cash Deposit (UPI-ICD)?
UPI-ICD (Interoperable Cash Deposit) is a digital banking service introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It lets you deposit cash using a UPI app—without using a debit or ATM card—at any bank’s cash deposit machine (CDM) that supports UPI ICD.
This means you can add money to your own account or someone else’s using:
- Their mobile number linked to UPI
- Their UPI ID (VPA)
- Their bank account number and IFSC code
Key Features of UPI-ICD
Feature | Description |
---|---|
Cardless Deposit | No need for ATM or debit card |
Interoperable | Works across multiple participating banks and machines |
Deposit Limit | Less than ₹50,000 per transaction (actual limit depends on your bank) |
Third-party Deposits | You can deposit into someone else’s account |
Secure & Instant | Uses UPI authentication and real-time crediting |
Step-by-Step Process to Use UPI-ICD
Step 1: Visit a UPI-ICD Enabled CDM
Find a Cash Deposit Machine (CDM) that supports UPI-ATM Interoperable Cash Deposit.
Step 2: Select ‘UPI Cash Deposit’ Option
Tap on the “UPI Cash Deposit” option. A dynamic QR code will appear on the screen.
Step 3: Scan QR Code Using Your UPI App
Open your UPI-enabled app (like Paytm), scan the QR code, and select the beneficiary account (your own or someone else’s).
Step 4: Confirm the Beneficiary Details
Check the name that appears in your UPI app. If correct, enter your UPI PIN to approve the transaction.
Step 5: Deposit the Cash
