Germany’s Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, Volker Wissing, had the opportunity to personally experience a seamless UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transaction and was genuinely captivated by the encounter. On Sunday, the German Embassy in India utilized X, formerly known as Twitter, to commend India’s digital infrastructure, citing it as one of the nation’s triumphs.

Through videos and images, the German embassy in India showcased Mr. Wissing’s grocery shopping venture and his utilization of UPI for making payments. The accompanying caption stated, “Among India’s stories of success lies its digital infrastructure. UPI empowers individuals to conduct transactions within seconds. Federal Minister for Digital and Transport @Wissing personally encountered the straightforwardness of UPI payments and is greatly fascinated!”

During his visit to Bengaluru for the G20 Digital Ministers Meeting on August 19, Mr. Wissing’s engagement in the event became noteworthy.

Social media users responded by expressing gratitude to Mr. Wissing for participating in India’s digital economic transformation. One user conveyed, “We appreciate your involvement in India’s digital economic transformation. Keep engaging and utilizing.”

“For German businesses and shoppers struggling with cash-only transactions, this will be a boon,” another user noted.

It’s worth mentioning that Unified Payments Interface (UPI) stands as India’s swift payment system, granting customers the ability to effectuate instantaneous payments around the clock. It relies on a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) generated by the user.

Notably, countries such as Sri Lanka, France, UAE, and Singapore have collaborated with India to explore emerging fintech and payment solutions. In a recent development in July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the adoption of the UPI payment mechanism by both India and France.
