No Extension for ITR Deadline: Beware of Fake News

The Income Tax Department is urging everyone to be aware of false information circulating online. A news clipping from a Gujarati newspaper claiming an extension on filing income tax returns (ITR) is FAKE NEWS. The actual deadline for e-filing your ITR for the financial year 2023-24 remains July 31, 2024.

Don’t be misled! The department advises taxpayers only to trust information from their official website (https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/).

According to the Income Tax Department’s social media post on X, “It has come to our knowledge that a clipping of Sandesh news is circulating on social media regarding extension of date of e-filing of ITR. This is FAKE news. Taxpayers are advised to follow updates from the official website/portal of IncomeTaxIndia.”
