To make FASTag management easier and improve user convenience, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has simplified the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for FASTag users.

According to the new guidelines issued by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), FASTag services will not be discontinued for non-compliant vehicles immediately. Instead, users will be given ample time and opportunity to complete their KYV verification.

As part of the revised process, users of cars, jeeps, and vans will now only need to upload a front photo showing the number plate and FASTag—side photographs are no longer required. Additionally, RC (Registration Certificate) details will be automatically fetched from Vahan when the user enters their vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number.

If multiple vehicles are registered under one mobile number, users can easily select the specific vehicle for completing KYV.

What’s Changing?

  • No More Disconnections (Right Away!): If your vehicle doesn’t meet the KYV requirements, your FASTag won’t be immediately stopped. You’ll get plenty of chances to complete the process.
  • Easier Photo Uploads: You’ll no longer need to upload pictures of the side of your car. Just a front picture showing your license plate and FASTag will do.
  • Automatic Vehicle Details: When you enter your vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number, the system will automatically get your vehicle registration details (RC) from the Vahan database.
  • Multiple Cars, Easy Selection: If you have several vehicles linked to one mobile number, you can easily choose which one you want to verify.

To ensure uninterrupted service, FASTags issued before the KYV policy will remain active unless there are complaints regarding tag misuse or loose tags. Issuer banks will also send SMS reminders to customers who haven’t yet completed the KYV process.

What About Old FASTags?

  • Stay Active: If you got your FASTag before these new rules, it will continue to work unless there are complaints about it being loose or misused.
  • Reminders from Your Bank: Your bank will send you text messages to remind you to complete the KYV process.

In cases where users face difficulty uploading documents, banks are required to proactively assist customers before any disconnection takes place. For further assistance, users can contact the National Highway Helpline (1033) for KYV-related queries.

This initiative is part of NHAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience, strengthen the FASTag ecosystem, and ensure a smooth and seamless journey for highway users across India.
