Starting October 1, 2025, passengers booking general reserved tickets online through the IRCTC website or mobile app will need to authenticate themselves using Aadhaar during the first 15 minutes of the booking window.
The move has been introduced to ensure that the benefits of the reservation system reach genuine passengers and to curb misuse by unscrupulous elements who exploit the system.
However, there will be no changes in the following:
- Computerized PRS Counters – Timings for booking general reserved tickets through Indian Railways’ computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters remain the same.
- Authorized Agents’ Restrictions – The 10-minute restriction at the opening of the general reservation, during which authorized ticketing agents are not allowed to book opening day reserved tickets, will also continue as it is.
This initiative reflects the government’s push toward digital transparency and ensuring fair access for common users while keeping the process smooth at offline counters.
