Elizabeth McGovern is an American actress who works in film, TV and theater. She is best known for the portrayal of Countess of Grantham in the British drama series Downtown Abbey. After acting in school plays, she pursued professional acting training at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and the drama division of The Juilliard School in New York. She has received several accolades and nominations for her performances in movies like the Oscar-winning American drama Ordinary People, Ragtime and Once Upon A Time in America.
