Is UPI completely free?

UPI transactions are generally free for individual customers, especially for personal bank-to-bank transfers (P2P) and most peer-to-merchant (P2M) payments. However, an interchange fee is applied to transactions exceeding ₹2,000 made using Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs). This fee is borne by the merchant or payment service provider, not the customer.
