Is Digital Rupee successful?

The Digital Rupee is currently in pilot phase adoption, with both wholesale (e₹-W) and retail (e₹-R) versions launched in late 2022 by the Reserve Bank of India. Its circulation is growing; as of May 2024, it reached 3.23 billion rupees, up from 1 billion in December 2023. However, this remains a small fraction of the total banknotes in circulation, and further observation is needed to fully track its success and adoption trends over time.
