Current Account

How much cash can be deposited in current account

There is no absolute legal limit on the amount of cash you can deposit into a current account, but banks and tax authorities follow specific guidelines:
  • Monthly Free Limits: Most banks offer a monthly free cash deposit limit, often ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹1 crore depending on the account variant. Deposits beyond this attract transaction fees.
  • Income Tax Reporting: Banks must report cash deposits aggregating to ₹10 lakh or more in a financial year to the Income Tax Department.
  • TDS Requirements: Under Section 194N, TDS may apply on high-value cash withdrawals, though deposits themselves generally do not trigger TDS.
