To open a bank account in India, you need to provide Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) along with recent photographs. As per RBI guidelines, the following Officially Valid Documents (OVDs) are accepted:
- Aadhaar Card
- PAN Card (mandatory for most accounts)
- Passport
- Voter Identity Card
- Driving Licence
- NREGA Job Card
If your OVD contains your current address, it serves as both POI and POA. Otherwise, separate documents like utility bills may be required.
