The cheque number is a unique six-digit identifier located at the bottom-left corner of a cheque leaf. It is the first set of numbers in the MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) line. In some cheque designs, it may also be printed at the top-right corner.
This number is essential for tracking the status of your payment. You can find it:
- At the bottom-left of the cheque leaf, preceding the 9-digit MICR code.
- On the cheque book stub for your personal records.
- Within your bank statement or passbook once the cheque has been processed.
