Which is the cheque number

The cheque number is a unique six-digit number located at the bottom of a cheque leaf. It is the first set of numbers printed in the MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) band. In India, you can identify the cheque number by looking at the bottom white strip of the cheque:
  • The first six digits represent the unique Cheque Number.
  • The following nine digits are the MICR code, used for electronic clearing.
  • Subsequent numbers indicate the bank account part of the RBI record and the transaction code.
This number is essential for tracking payments and filing stop-payment requests.
