How many days required for cheque clearance

Cheque clearance in India now takes only a few hours instead of several days. Under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) continuous clearing system implemented in early 2026, cheques are processed in near real-time.
  • Same-day clearance: Cheques deposited during banking hours (10 AM to 4 PM) are typically processed within three hours of receipt by the drawee bank.
  • Fund availability: Once the settlement is complete, funds are usually credited to the beneficiary's account within one hour.
  • Efficiency: This system has replaced the old batch-based process that previously required 1 to 3 working days.
