How much time taken for cheque clearance

Cheque clearance in India typically takes between a few hours to two working days. Following the RBI's transition to continuous clearing, timelines have significantly reduced:
  • Continuous Clearing: Since January 2026, cheques are processed in three-hour cycles during business hours, often allowing same-day fund access.
  • Traditional CTS: Standard batch-based processing generally follows a T+1 or T+2 business day cycle.
  • Outstation Cheques: These may occasionally take longer due to additional verification steps across different clearing zones.
Factors like bank holidays and depositing after branch cut-off times can impact these durations.
