How many days it takes for cheque clearance

Under the new Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, cheque clearance has transitioned from taking 1 to 2 business days to being processed within a few hours on the same day. As of January 3, 2026, the clearing process has become even faster:

• Cheques deposited during business hours (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM) are scanned and processed continuously.
• Drawee banks must confirm or dishonour cheques within a strict three-hour window.
• Once settled, funds are typically released to your account within one hour.
