How many accounts in bank

In India, there is no legal limit on the total number of bank accounts an individual can hold across different banks. You can open multiple savings or current accounts based on your financial needs. However, specific rules apply to certain account types:
  • Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA): You can hold only one such account in a single bank and cannot have any other savings account in that same bank.
  • Post Office Savings Bank: An individual can open only one single account and one joint account at a single post office.
  • Current Accounts: For businesses with significant credit exposure (over ₹5 crore), RBI guidelines may restrict the number of current accounts to ensure credit discipline.
