If you transferred money using Paytm UPI and your account was debited, but the receiver claims the amount was not credited to their account, the transaction is likely 'Pending' or 'Stuck' in the banking system.

Do NOT attempt to transfer the money again. A second transfer risks a duplicate deduction if the first transaction eventually goes through.

What is Happening?

In almost all cases, the money is safe and waiting for confirmation:

  • Payment is Pending: The transaction is stuck between the remitting bank (yours) and the beneficiary bank (receiver's) due to a momentary technical issue or network lag.

  • Auto-Reversal or Success: The system will automatically resolve the transaction in one of two ways:

    • Success: The money will be credited to the receiver's account.
    • Failure/Reversal: The money will be automatically refunded to your source account.

Action Plan and Timeline

| Step | Action | Timeframe & Details | | --- | --- | --- | | 1. Wait | Check your Paytm Order History for the transaction status. | Wait 1 Hour: UPI transactions usually clear within an hour. If the status is 'Pending,' wait for it to change. | | 2. Check Receiver's Account | Ask the receiver to check their latest bank statement or Passbook, not just the SMS/app notification. | Sometimes the credit is made without an instant notification. | | 3. Automatic Refund | If the transaction fails, the refund is initiated automatically. | 48 Hours to 5 Days: The money will be automatically reversed to your source account within 48 hours to 5 days, though it's often much faster. | | 4. Raise a Complaint (If Needed) | If the issue is not resolved after 5 days (money not credited to the receiver OR not reversed to you), raise a dispute. | Use the "Help & Support" section in the Paytm app, go to the specific UPI transaction, and file a complaint. |
