It's a common issue: you book a train ticket, your money is debited, but the booking fails. This is usually due to network issues between banks and IRCTC servers. If this happens on Paytm, here's what to expect and what to do.
1. First, Check the Booking Status
Before rebooking, check the final status of your transaction in the Paytm app.
- Go to "My Orders" to find your attempted booking.
- The status will show as "Booking Pending," "Booking Failed," or "Booking Successful."
Paytm syncs with IRCTC for about 15 minutes to confirm the final status. Do not rebook immediately.
2. Understand the Automatic Refund Process
- If Status is "Booking Failed": This means the ticket was not generated. Paytm will automatically initiate a full refund to your original payment source. You don't need to do anything.
- If Status is "Booking Pending": Wait for at least 15 minutes. If the ticket isn't confirmed, the status will change to "Failed," and the refund process will begin.
You should only attempt to book a new ticket after you see the "Booking Failed" status to avoid having two separate bookings.
3. Refund Timelines
While Paytm starts the refund instantly after a failed booking, the time it takes to reach you depends on your bank.
- Bank Processing Time: It typically takes 3 to 7 working days for the amount to be credited back to your account.
4. What If the Refund Is Delayed?
If the refund doesn't arrive within 7 working days, follow these steps:
- Contact Paytm Support: Use the 'Help & Support' section in the Paytm app, select the transaction, and raise your concern.
- Check with Your Bank: If Paytm has confirmed the refund has been processed, the delay may be on your bank's end. Contact them with the transaction details for an update.
In nearly all cases of a failed train booking, your money is safe and will be returned automatically. Patience is key while the systems update.
