Ace filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is all set to retell the classic romantic folklore of Laila and Majnu. Contemporizing the soul-touching story of two lovers who became one of the icons of love itself, the movie is set in the valleys of Kashmir. Though the intense legend of love, sacrifice and tragedy has existed since the 9th century, it was somewhere in the 1200s that the poet Nizami Ganjavi popularized it through his poems. Originally based in the deserts of Arabia, the epic tale of love has been modernized to be more relatable in today’s context.
