Why is a PIN more secure than a password?

A PIN is considered more secure because it is local to the device, meaning it is not transmitted anywhere or stored on a server. A password, however, is transmitted to a server and can be intercepted or stolen. If someone steals your password, they can sign in from anywhere, but stealing your PIN requires them to steal your physical device as well.
