When was UPI first launched?

The Unified Payment Interface (UPI) had its pilot launch on April 11, 2016. The launch was conducted by Dr. Raghuram G Rajan, the Governor of RBI, at Mumbai. Major Indian banks began making UPI-enabled applications available to customers starting in August 2016.
