Can UPI lite work without internet?

UPI Lite itself requires an internet connection to make payments, as both the sender and receiver need to be online for the transaction to be processed. However, its enhanced version called UPI Lite X supports offline payments without internet by using NFC technology for communication between devices. With UPI Lite X, users can make small-value offline transactions (up to ₹500 per transaction), but they must come online within 4 days to sync and confirm these transactions. Currently, offline UPI Lite payments are limited and require both parties to have UPI Lite X enabled.
