You can generate a BHIM UPI ID by first downloading and registering on the BHIM app with your mobile number that is linked to your bank account. The app will automatically verify your number. You must then link your bank account. After successful registration and account linking, a default UPI ID, typically in the format of your *mobilenumber@upi*, will be automatically created. You will also need your Debit Card or Aadhaar details to set a UPI PIN, which is required to authenticate all transactions.
