As per the Union Budget 2026, the basic customs duty on gold in India is 5%. This is a reduction from the previous rate of 6%. For international travelers who have resided abroad for over a year, the duty-free limits for gold jewellery are:
- Male passengers: Up to 20 grams of gold jewellery.
- Female passengers: Up to 40 grams of gold jewellery.
Following the 2026 guidelines, previous value caps have been removed, leaving only these weight limits for duty-free clearance. For gold exceeding these limits or in other forms, applicable customs duties must be paid.
