Generally, open-ended mutual funds do not expire and have a perpetual existence. However, closed-ended mutual funds have a maturity date, at which point the portfolio is liquidated and the proceeds are distributed to investors after deducting fees. The maximum tenure for investing in mutual funds is often considered perpetual, while the minimum can be as short as one day.
